Why can’t my phone-line support all the best Broadband deals?

Okay, Sky says i can get it for £10/month but a typed in my phone number and says 'it's out of Sky's area' but can offer a deal for £17.99? It's the same with alot of the cheapest broadband deals! Virgin etc! Any idea? Can i do something about this, I'm sure its sumo thing to do with BT crappy old line..!

because Sky have not invested in their own equipment in all the exchanges in every location.

BT have it in every location
Sky have cherry picked the best ones.. and leave the less profitable ones alone - hence their average is better.

    and do exchange search.
then click on your exchange link..
LLU *Local Loop Unbundled* is the phrase you want.
You will see some 16 odd companies.. but only 1 or 2 in each exchnage.have done it.

If you are lucky, they will show a projected install date..
    but its been slowing down..

The providers put their own equipment into the exchange, thats means that costs are reduced as they dont have to pay bt for usage, and you often have a more reliable, fast connection. That process is known as local loop unbundling (LLU). It costs that much because bt charge the provider (in your case sky) to connect you to the bt network and provide you with broadband.

Go to this site http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and type in your postcode, phone number, town, city whatever you want and it will tell you what exchange you are on, then look at the right when you select your exchange and you will see something like this below

LLU operator presence What is this?
    AOL: Not available
    O2 / Be: Enabled as of 22/08/2008
    C&W / Bulldog: Not available
    Edge Telecom: Not available
    Entanet: Not available
    Lumison: Not available
    NewNet: Not available
    Node4: Not available
    Orange: Not available
    Pipex: Not available
Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 13/06/2007
    Smallworld: Not available
    TalkTalk (CPW): Not available
    Tiscali: Not available
    Tiscali TV: Not available
    WB Internet: Not available
    Zen Internet: Not available

When you see that you may see green ticks next to some names, if there is a tick next to one of them names then you will be able to get cheap broadband from them. If you can get o2 then you should go for them as they are very good.

If you just have a load of red X on all of them then you will have to pay a lot for your internet im afraid.
